Most coffee comes from twin flat beans grown within a cherry, but this is a single rounded bean called Peaberry for its unique shape.
This gourmet African coffee displays many of the characteristics of Kenyan coffee, though much lighter in acidity. Peaberry coffee is rare; only 10% of all coffee develops with this characteristic.

Peaberries produce a somewhat different (often better) cup than normal beans from the same crop, from which they may or may not be separated during grading. This peaberry was tactfully roasted.
Yet this is not its only distinct feature. Harvested at the base of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, near the Kenyan border, Tanzanian Peaberry has less acidity than most East African coffees. The fertile volcanic soil is ideal for superior beans and the result is a coffee that possesses a roundness swirling with slight wine and fruit flavors. Though fruity in taste, Peaberry is hardly light and fluffy. Instead, it has the heavy body of a rich liqueur.

Peaberry coffee is rare; only 5% of all coffee develop with this characteristic. As a result, peaberry coffee beans must be sorted from the rest.
Peaberry beans are widely reputed to roast better than flat berries, being said to roast more evenly, because their rounder shape minimizes sharp edges and allows the berries to roll about the roasting chamber more easily as well as because the alleged higher bean density may improve heat transfer in the roasting process.
